The theme of this year’s congress was “Rays of Knowledge.” The committee brought this concept to life with great passion, once again proving that a medical congress can be a truly memorable experience.
The attention to detail was evident throughout — from the monumental sculptures to the overall design of the venue, right through to the musical performance by Bamlak Werner, whose voice lit up the hall with the specially composed song “Rays of Knowledge.”
One of the undisputed highlights was the opening show, supported by our massive 20-metre LED wall: the 3D effects of the content displayed on screen left the audience literally breathless.
But there was plenty happening beyond the main stage in Hall A as well. In total, we deployed over 300m² of LED wall across various applications throughout the event. The acclaimed ECR Broadcast Studio also went on air again this year.
We are proud that our Event Solutions team, led by Robert Ranzinger, was responsible for the technical implementation of multimedia technology at one of Europe’s largest medical congresses.
With more than 20,000 attendees from around the world, ECR is a landmark event in the Austrian congress calendar — not only in terms of participation, but also in the quality of content, staging, and production.

Immersive Media Technology at ECR 2025: Real-Time Unreal Engine Visuals & Live Studio Broadcasts for a Sustainable “Planet Radiology”
The European Congress of Radiology (ECR) 2025, which took place from 26 February to 2 March 2025 at the Austria Center Vienna, was held under the motto “Planet Radiology” and placed a special focus on sustainability and social responsibility in the field of radiology.
A technical highlight was the use of Disguise RXIII media servers, which were used to play high-resolution Unreal content in real time. These powerful servers enabled impressive visuals and seamless integration of real-time 3D content into the event.
The ECR Studio also returned. From here we broadcast the daily programmes “Morning Welcome” and “Daily Wrap Up”, as well as a total of over 30 interviews, interdisciplinary presentations and discussions.

“NEXT GENERATION RADIOLOGY” was the claim of the ECR 2024. From our perspective, “Next Generation TECHNOLOGY” would also have been a suitable motto for the congress.
For the event, we used our brand-new Disguise vx 4 media servers for the first time, with which we played the content produced in the Unreal Engine in the highest quality.
The programme highlight was the brilliant opening ceremony with performances by the acrobatic groups Zurcaroh and La Vision Acrobatics. When surprise guest and co-presenter Ameca, the world’s most advanced humanoid robot, appeared on stage, she attracted everyone’s attention.
We also once again realised the tried and tested concept of the congress studio. The round table talks, in which experts from science, research and industry discussed topics such as the use of AI in radiology, generated a great deal of interest. In the daily “Morning Welcome” and “Highlights of the Day” programmes, viewers were informed live about the congress programme.

European Congress of Radiology (ECR) 2022
Hybrid comeback with 110 m² LED stage, walk-in light ramp, and 4K event technology
The largest medical congress in Europe, the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) , took place at the Austria Center Vienna from 13 July to 17 July 2022. After online formats in the last two pandemic years, the ECR returned to the Austria Center Vienna in full size as a hybrid meeting.
We contributed to the technical realisation of the congress with professional audio, video and projection technology.
The stage of Hall A in the Austria Center was transformed into a modern broadcast studio with a wide range of possibilities thanks to a large 110 square metre curved LED backdrop and the associated studio technology. A particular highlight was the first-time use of a walk-on LED ramp for the stage performance.
Among other things, our 4K/UHD control room, PT-RZ31 projectors, remote-controlled PTZ cameras, 4K studio cameras, PandorasBox V8 media servers and Aquilion RS4 screen management were used.

European Congress of Radiology (ECR) 2021
Virtual event technology for ECR 2021 – mixed reality studio & full HD livestreaming for the European Congress of Radiology
On behalf of the European Society of Radiology, AV-Professional was also able to support this year’s ECR 2021 with expertise and technology as well as technical implementation.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the congress was unfortunately unable to take place in its usual form with over 25,000 participants as part of an in-person congress. As a result, new ways had to be found to be able to map and broadcast lively discussions and the exchange of knowledge internationally.
For the main channel – Channel°1 – AV-Professional deployed a full HD broadcasting system with a large control room, sound booth, a streaming centre including backup and several Zoom conference laptops to ensure that the five-day congress programme ran smoothly. The centrepiece of the virtual event production – the Mixed Reality Studio– was located on another floor of the building. Consisting of a large indoor LED wall as a dynamic backdrop including a complete stage ambience with a corresponding floor, perfect lighting and ambient lighting. Here, 4K studio composite camera trains with teleprompter system and remote-controlled PTZ cameras of the latest generation were used to produce the daily “Morning Welcome Session” and the discussion format “Table Talks” LIVE. This allowed the setting – framed by Gustav Klimt’s “The Kiss” – to be stylishly emphasised. An additional, self-sufficient control room was built for this purpose, which was connected to the control room for the broadcasting process.
In the daily programmes, the congress participants were welcomed and informed about the highlights of the day. Interesting interviews and high-calibre discussion panels with experts from international destinations such as Australia, the Netherlands and the UK could be easily switched on. This made it possible to inform all congress participants virtually about the latest research results, figures and findings.
